A
Note from Bryan & Sherry Mackenzie
Sherry & I are extremely excited by
the accomplishments and impact our
small, exclusively Red Angus semen company
has had on the entire Red Angus
industry... globally. We have a great following
in Australia (much thanks goes to
our semen distributor over there, Gavin &
Kirrily Isippi). And at the recent Denver
Stock Show, the response was overwhelming
with how many U.S. breeders
were wanting something new and exciting
- a “Cherokee Alternative” as I call it!! Much credit goes to the likes of the reigning
U.S. “Mr. Red Angus”, Kyle Gilchrist
and good friends, Mike & Kim
Karweik. Never before has the
interest been so strong “South
of the Border” - especially on
bulls like Mulberry. We limited
his U.S. 2007 sales to 400
units and it was snapped up in
a matter of moments and averaged
nearly $100 U.S./per
dose!

Now lets turn our attention to home...
good ole’ Canada! “The true North strong
and free....” and where cattle production is
still done primarily by visual image... and
where Red Angus are “King of the
Breeds” for crossbreeding demands.
When I say visual, by that I mean selection
of economically important traits such
as good feet, good structure, excellent
hair and performance oriented, value
added, profitable cattle. Trust me, if the
Canadian Angus Association ever tries to
implement the use of EPD’s into a show
ring scenario, I’ll go to the ends of the
earth and hell and back to fight that one!
They are a tool, granted, but a tool that is
to be taken in context and not blown way
out of proportion such as the emphasis
placed upon them in the show ring in the
U.S.
For the 2007 edition of the Brylor
Semen Sales semen directory, we are
very pleased to let you know that 74% of
all the bulls in this catalogue were born
and bred right here on Canadian soil!
Going over the “Top 100” list of the most
used sires in Canada, I’m concerned that
38 of the top 50 bulls listed are foreign
bred. Something I’d sure like to see when
the world comes to Canada in 2009 for
the “World Angus Forum” will be to show
them Canadian sired yearlings and calves
if we focus on using a few more Canadian
bulls - after all, the Forum is in Calgary...
not Billings!
Never before, in the nine years that
we have published our sire directory, have
we had a lineup of bulls as
strong as we have this year for
you, our customers. Take note,
it’s the last time offer for our old
standby, New Trend. Many of
you have asked how much we
have left on him. The answer -
not very many straws for a bull
of his presence and authority.
We have new and extremely superior photos
on bulls like Pasquale and Master
Plan (thanks again to Grant & Lauralee
Rolston for their high class work ethic and
taking the super shots). And finally, we
are anchored by the powerful herd bull,
Mulberry 26P! That’s him with me on the
cover when the honorable Shirley
McLelland just “tapped him on the butt” as
the Supreme Champion Bull at the 2007
Farmfair International Show. Nick &
Lorraine VanGalaan of Fine Line... thank
you for raising such a magnificent creature
that all Red Angus breeders in
Canada can be very proud of to represent
them. He was a true Red Angus ambassador
as he has been admired by countless
thousands of cattlemen from all walks
of the cattle industry.
See the inner back cover on how to
order semen and new payment details for
2007.
Thank you in advance for believing in
Brylor Semen Sales and our concepts!!
